Thumbs up for NTUC

Letter from Jeffrey Law Lee Beng

The report, “Getting a warm meal in tough times” (April 7) with a photo of NTUC FairPrice’s managing director offering lunch packets to foreign workers is heartening.

NTUC’s donation of $300,000 to help migrant workers in various ways is a manifestation of our recognition of their contribution towards the economic development of our country.

Foreign workers in Singapore are said to be happier and more productive compared to their counterparts working in the region.

Perhaps one of the reasons is that most employers here treat them equitably, and they are also adequately protected by our labour laws.

Giving them free meals, training and legal aid is a step in the right direction and they will reciprocate our kindness and concern by their hard work and higher productivity.

Migrant workers have been an asset all these years. Take care of them and they will in turn take care of us.
