I haven't heard of this, as I always encash my cheques, depositing into my back account, so this is a surprise. Why, we can encash cheques over the counter. Maybe, back then, in my home country, it was allowed. Nowadays, the proliferation of cheats and frauds may have caused the bank rules to change, tougher, stricter, less friendly...
